I thought it was strange that my yiayia’s wore a pearl ring on her wedding finger and then i recently discovered that this is a normal custom in Greece.
According to a website i found (jewllery catalogue), pearls used to be more valuable than diamonds. This is because when pearls first arrived in Europe from the Middle East, they were more expensive.
The pearl is known as the “stone of sincerity” and it promote faith, charity, innocence, integrity, truth and loyalty.
